Rönölä Courtyard

“The unbroken peace of the wilderness prevails around the courtyard. Ylläst fell rises steadily in the northeast. In the open lake landscape, the sun of a nightless night glows unhindered, the full moon shines and the stars twinkle or the northern lights dance in the sky. The old pines sway with dignity in the breeze, and the Siberian jay on its branch watches the visitors. Clean and fresh air is incredibly good for the body and soul. Focus on hearing the sound of the wind. Close your eyes, take a deep breath and calm down.”

The old log house with the separate sauna buildings by the lake offers a uniquely atmospheric setting for a variety of indoor and outdoor events at all times of the year.

Red-logged main building

The old log walls carry decades of life and stories with them. There have been many types of passersby on its rustic plank floors. Rönölä still stands firmly in its place and offers an us memorable experience in the spirit of the old times. The larger space once served as shared bedroom for the lumberjacks, and it was called the dull end. The smaller room was the foreman’s room, called the sharp end. Between those, a small matron’s room as well as a drying room were located. Two large rooms can today host groups of up to 50-60 people for dining or meetings.

Kitchen space

The kitchen in the main house has been modernized with electricity and connected to the fresh water and draining network; there is a water heater, a large electric stove with an oven, a refrigerator, a freezer, a dishwasher and kitchen utensils. Kupilka tableware includes serving dishes for soups as well as other food and drinks. The kitchen does not meet the hygiene level of a restaurant kitchen, but it offers catering services a good framework for the presentation and distribution of food.

Savotta sauna

Our old Rustic sauna is a genuine, original lumberjacks´ sauna, which served forest workers already during the lumbering seasons in the last century. Savotta sauna is a traditional wood-heated sauna. It also means that sauna users must add wood to the fire pit during their bathing hour to maintain the heat. Our sauna offers soft and relaxing moist heat. Its bench can have a maximum of ten persons seated at a time. Washing is carried out using traditional way, i.e. mixing cold water in a washbowl to a suitable temperature by adding hot water from a large cast iron pot.

Smoke sauna

The smoke sauna offers a perfectly quiet sauna environment. The fire does not crackle in the oven during the bathing. Its heating sessions start early in the morning to have it ready for bathing in the evening. The smoke sauna is single-heated and does not have flues to the outside. The aroma of smoke smells mildly in the sauna, because the room is full of smoke during heating. Removing smoke and soot particles is an important part of cleaning before guests arrive. Our smoke sauna is a modern sauna of its own kind, with a wealth of silent information from past centuries combined. Fifteen persons sit on its bench shelf at a time.

Maintenance hut

The newly constructed separate maintenance building has modern, hygienic toilets and showers. It is only a few tens of meters away from the main building and the saunas.

Wind shelters

There are wind shelters with fireplaces by the lake. They offer a relaxing setting, for example, for grilling a sausage or other snacks while enjoying the fascinating lake view. In the evenings, if weather permitting, you can gaze at the stars and northern lights.

Parking slot

Rönölä is located right along the road Luosuntie. When you get off the road, there is a spacious parking area for our guests. We don’t recommend driving cars down to the beach side in the old courtyard to break the atmosphere of the old times.
